SAORI Art Therapy

Center for Community Cultural Development

The project was a SAORI weaving art therapy program designed to empower disadvantaged women, particularly those facing relational issues with their spouses, children and other family members.  It was aimed to restore harmony in the family and improve mental wellness.

The one-year project covered eight weaving art therapy workshops tailored for various groups, such as carers, low-income women and ethnic minority women. Through SAORI weaving, art-making and sharing, participants reflected on and explored topics such as emotion, life, creativity and personal transformation.

At the completion of the first four workshops, a sharing session was organized where participants shared their positive and healing experiences from the group therapy.  An exhibition of the SAORI works made by the participants with their own personal reflection were also displayed. Another round of sharing and exhibition will be organized after completing the four workshops.
