Project Heal Spirit (Heal 靈)

Chinese YMCA Kwun Tong Center

Project Heal Spirit was initiated in response to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on grassroots families in the Kwun Tong District, aiming to empower housewives by enhancing their work skills and employment opportunities. The project involved trainings and partnerships with social enterprises to help women gain job-seeking skills, supporting their family’s well-being and achieving a work-life balance. Additionally, it addressed the mental health of the participants by providing a space for self-care and stress relief.

Key activities included parent-child events to strengthen family bonds and a “Tao Bao Healing Parent-child Day Camp” that brought together over 10 families for activities led by Chinese YMCA volunteers. The project saw the participation of 18 women and their families, with a total of 172 individuals (372 individual-times) attending 22 sessions across various activities. Youth volunteers from HKUST and other universities supported these efforts.

A highlight was a flower art lamp workshop conducted by 4 trained women for 12 members of our Club, showcasing their new skills and facilitating community interaction.

The project’s tangible outcomes were notably positive: 14 women secured part-time positions as floral assistants at YM Fleur, a social enterprise, providing over 1,500 working hours and conducting more than 50 workshops by December 2023. These opportunities generated an estimated income of over HK$90,000 for the women, significantly contributing to their financial stability and overall well-being.
